Welcome to AlaskArt. As usual, it has taken months to get back to the drawing board. However, it has been fun getting acquainted with a new medium - charcoal. More specifically, mixed media using charcoal, carbon pencil and graphite pencil.
I have J. D. Hillberry www.jdhillberry.com to thank for this new addiction. His self-taught techniques of creating realistic textures with these materials have been an inspiration. Check out his web site for a look at his work, tutorials and results from some of his students. His text on the subject is highly recommended to anyone serious about pencil art.
There is a new piece on the portrait page using Mr. Hillberry's methods. It is a rendering of one of my heroes, Nikola Tesla. Hopefully, more items will be forthcoming soon.
