Covered bridges evolved for a purely pragmatic reason. The cover was used to protect the timbers of the bridge from the elements and extending its useful life. Although wooden bridges are seldom the design choice in our modern world, they still evoke images of a time when life was a little simpler and the pace a bit slower. |
